About the BR1 Black / Aqua Blue

Designed to meet the demands of the sport's most driven athletes, the all-new BR1 represents a revised approach to performance, comfort and safety. Harnessing feedback from elite, club and masters-level rowers, the BR1 is the sport's only specifically-built footwear to offer a true anatomical fit without compromise. It's everything you've come to love about Bont Rowing shoes, only better.

Featuring a lighter, stiffer and lower stack two-piece carbon fibre chassis, BR1 takes our renowned PBR1 and delivers better energy transfer, greater durability and reduced bend point force for a more natural and powerful interaction between foot and stretcher. Our uncompromising approach to performance pushes beyond power transfer with a lower forefoot cradle, increased bend point elasticity, wider heel cup counter and achilles gateway for a more versatile fit across the entire size range. Usability is further enhanced with targeted Super Stretch fabric placed around the first and fifth metatarsal for our most supportive and stable anatomical fit yet.

The all-new BR1 harnesses the effective and reliable BOA Fit System with single or optional dual-release safety mechanism for faster removal of shoes when getting in and out of the water and is FISA approved for competition. The all-new laser cut hydrophobic microfiber upper and anti-stretch backing improves foot hold and stability while the proprietary Tech Mesh liner takes comfort and ventilation to another level for a more comfortable row in all conditions.

Combine with our Drive QRS Heel Set for an even better connection at the catch.

    BR1 shoes

Let me say that I am a beginner rower; never rowed in college but have been rowing an erg and on the water for ~3 years. Prior to rowing I was a competitive cyclist (road/mtn/cross) and, amongst others, used BONT shoes when riding. When I started rowing I was exposed to Vespoli, NIKE and H2row shoes- all of which felt stiff and tight, not to mention too big or small, depending on who rowed my seat before I got there (did I mention cold and wet as well?). After acquiring a single I got serious about my shoes (after all, they ARE the connection to the boat). The shoes that came with my shell were very stiff; I had tight heel cords and needed more flex in my foot at the catch. After doing some research I discovered BONT. I remembered them from cycling as some very forgiving shoe, stiff but also very comfortable (wide), so I gave them a try. Wow, what a shoe! This shoe was extremely comfortable (gracious forefoot) and provided the mobility/flexibility for my tight heel cords. And the BOA dial really customized the fit. I couldn't be happier. These shoes are light and flexible and with the available heel lifts I was able to create the perfect catch position. And unlike some of the other shoes I tried, they dried quickly after a wash. AND, when coupled with the QRS system I was able to to take them in/out of my boat effortlessly and take them home and attach to my erg (how? ask your BONT rep. Kathleen was the best, and she gets it, so give her a shout!) Thanks BONT!
